Despite this Carlota continued to organise the uprising. Known for both her intelligence and musical skill, she sent coded messages using talking drums to coordinate a series of attacks. As the drums were a traditional instrument among the West African slaves, the Spanish were unaware that the music was also being used a form of communication. On November 3rd 1843, Carlota led a raid which freed Fermina and a dozen other slaves from captivity. On November 5th the uprising began by at the Triumvirato and Acane sugar plantations, forcibly overthrowing the Spanish owners. These attacks were led personally by Carlota, who went into battle wielding a machete.

Το 1971 περνάει τον Ατλαντικό κι επιστρέφει στη Γερμανία. Εκεί, στο Αμβούργο, έστειλε η χούντα τον βασανιστή και δολοφόνο του Che και του Inti, τον συνταγματάρχη Roberto Quintanilla Pereira για να τον προστατεύσει από την οργή του Φιδέλ που είχε πει: “Τους δολοφόνους του Τσε, τους θέλουν όλοι νεκρούς”.
Κι ενώ έπαιρναν μέτρα προστασίας των δολοφόνων βασανιστών φοβούμενοι τα κομάντο της Κουβανέζικης υπηρεσίας ασφαλείας, η Monika πήρε την εκδίκηση.
Από τον Απρίλη του 1971, μετά την εκτέλεση του δολοφόνου ξεκίνησε ένα ανθρωποκυνηγητό σε όλες τις χώρες του κόσμου για τη σύλληψη της Monika. Κι όμως χωρίς αποτέλεσμα. Ο Régis Debray, ο Γάλλος φίλος του Che και του Μιτεράν, ο Ιταλός Giangiacomo Feltrinelli, τα διεθνή δίκτυα αλληλεγγύης των εθνικοαπελευθερωτικών κινημάτων δεν επέτρεψαν να εντοπιστεί η “άγγελος της εκδίκησης”.

Το δάσος έχει αναγεννηθεί. Περίπου 3.000 στρέμματα έχουν φυτευτεί ξανά μέσα σε αυτά τα πέντε χρόνια, ενώ τα φυτά καλλιεργούνται από το φυτώριο της πόλης.

In addition, starting in 2005 there was a transition in the Bolivarian experience, from the initial and very open approach that was concerned about building a social model different to both the Soviet style of organisation and liberal capitalism, towards declaring that the process was socialist and understanding socialism as a state-driven process. Cuban advisors had a strong political and ideological influence in that conversion.
Since then, social organisations began to be conceived as mere instruments to be directed from above, based on a top-down and Stalinist political culture that increased the levels of precariousness of social organisations.

The teachers have asked for a 35 percent wage increase to compensate for the high inflation rate, which in 2016 reached more than 40 percent in the country.

The Guerrero-based Popular Revolutionary Army, however, staged attacks on oil facilities as recently as 2007 and has since been blamed for kidnappings and violent demonstrations.

Indeed, finance capital’s renewed structural centrality is also evident in recent state spending agreements. The figures, taken from the Central Bank of the Republic of Argentina are mind-blowing. Private loan funding to service both debt repayments and for ongoing public sector projects for has increased tenfold in the first six months of the Macri government in 2016 compared to the same period last year. Such deals are tied to the vulture funds agreement and the associated bond issue. Foreign currency accumulation achieved through 1) indebtedness and financial speculation; 2) the remittance of profits and dividends abroad (restricted by the Cristina Fernandez’ administration) which has increased thirteen-fold year on year; and 3) interest payments which have more than doubled in the same timeframe, mean that current annual payments to foreign capital equate to US$10 billion. This will only increase in the foreseeable future. While the privilege of re-joining the IMF will mean that Argentina will have to indebt itself by a further US $400m, the 2016 budget approved by congress will add US$40 billion overall to the 2015 debt.

We hope to provide a brief introduction to this obscure yet important character in Mormon, Mexican, and radical history. We are also interested in briefly exploring what it was about Mormonism that attracted this young radical. We find Rhodakanaty an inspirational figure that embodies the seeming paradoxes of attempting to reconcile religious and political ideas into not only a holistic cosmology, but also a systematic critique of capitalism in ethico-spiritual terms that seeks to provide meaningful and constructive resistance and alternatives to the injustices that system creates.
